Brian Baker Certificates

Brian graduated from Lehigh University with a B.A. degree in Architecture where he was honored with several awards for his accomplishments and leadership skills, including the esteemed Lehigh Undergraduate Merit Award – the highest honor bestowed upon an undergraduate student by the Alumni Association.  He then went on to graduate school at the University of Maryland where he received a Master of Architecture degree. Additionally, he studied architecture and land planning overseas in Paris, France learning about both modern and classical design strategies. Brian worked several years for the eighth largest (at that time) architecture firm in the nation, Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership (ZGF) in Washington, DC and Spillman Farmer Architects in Bethlehem, PA conducting urban design and architectural work for large-scale commercial, institutional, and civic projects. He also has lectured on various green building topics at Lehigh University, The Goodman Center for Real Estate Studies, and venues/events throughout the country including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 3 (Mid-Atlantic) Office (Philadelphia, PA) and NeoCon (Chicago, IL), the largest interior design show in North America.

In the June 2011 issue of Professional Builder magazine, Brian was honored and recognized as one of the top 40 Under 40 home-building professionals in the United States. In April 2013, Brian was also honored by regional publication, Lehigh Valley Business, with a Forty Under 40 Award in recognition for his significant contributions made throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley region. In October 2013, the Delaware Valley Green Building Council, Lehigh Valley Branch presented Brian with the prestigious Sustainability Award for Individual Leadership honoring the outstanding individual who “exemplifies the spirit of sustainable design, construction, and management within the Lehigh Valley.” In October 2013, Brian had the great honor of being selected as one of twelve jurors from across North America to help judge the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon hosted at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, CA; which was won by Team Austria: Vienna University of Technology with their LISI (Living Inspired by Sustainable Innovation) House. In February 2014, Brian was honored with the prestigious national NAHBGreen Individual Advocate of the Year Award from the National Association of Home Builders honoring the individual who has demonstrated unique dedication to informing and inspiring home builders and the public about the benefits of green building for homeowners and for the planet. And in October 2015, Brian was selected once again to participate as one of twelve jurors to help judge the 2015 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon also hosted at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, CA; which was won this time by Stevens Institute of Technology with their impressive SURE (sustainable + resilient) HOUSE.

Brian is also an accomplished Pennsylvania licensed REALTOR® (see his real estate website here) in the Macungie, PA office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, Realtors as part of The Mick Seislove Team. In addition to holding the OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) 10-Hour Card in Construction, Brian is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional with both BD+C (Building Design + Construction) and Homes specialties from the U.S. Green Building Council, a Master Certified Green Professional from the National Association of Home Builders, a former Certified Building Analyst from the Building Performance Institute, and a RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network) Rater Member. Serving on the Board of Directors since 2007, Brian is a past President of the Lehigh Valley Green Builders and a former Supervisory Committee member of the Lehigh Valley Branch, Delaware Valley Green Building Council. As Director of Marketing & Design, Brian presently oversees the company’s marketing and sales as well as the architectural design department. Furthermore, Brian helps nurture lasting relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, real estate agents, and most importantly, homeowners.

Scott A. Baker CGP

Director of Operations

Scott has a Muhlenberg College B.A. degree in Business Administration. He started his career with 84 Lumber where he managed a multi-million dollar yard in Deptford, NJ. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations and ultimately the profitability of the store. From this experience Scott gained valuable knowledge about building materials, working with contractors, and managing a business. He later worked at American Computer Solutions (ACS) where he managed the Information Technology department. He was responsible for recommending and implementing uniform IT policy and procedure throughout the entire organization. He also designed and implemented the company website. After ACS, Scott worked at East Penn Financial Group (EPFG) of MetLife, in Allentown, PA as a financial advisor. While at EPFG, he became one of the top new advisors in the entire organization, earning recognition with a “Fast Start Award”, awarded to top new advisors. He also was awarded as a Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) qualifier, and a company “Leader’s Conference”, awarded to advisors who meet or exceed the company’s high individual sales goals. While working as a financial advisor, he helped families and small businesses reach their financial goals. He also was promoted to agency sales director with Plastic Bottle Manufacturers EPFG.

Scott is a Certified Green Professional from the National Association of Home Builders and a former Certified Building Analyst from the Building Performance Institute. As Director of Operations, Scott heads up all building field operations, as well as purchasing, finance, and the management of trade contractors.

James C. Baker

President

James is a graduate of Michigan State University with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanics and Materials Engineering and of Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science. He spent 14 very successful years working on technology and in management within the steel industry. He then co-founded a startup company, American Computer Solutions (ACS), which was very prosperous and grew to over 400 employees with offices in four regions of the eastern U.S. The company strived to master new technology and successfully applying it in the marketplace. Excellence in customer service was one of the hallmarks of the company, and was continually emphasized throughout the firm and in its educational programs. Also, honesty and strong business ethics were always strongly emphasized within the company. Likewise, these values were embedded within the foundation of our current company.

Presently, as President of Baker Development Group LLC, James oversees the overall business. In addition to leading the company management and planning, James provides various areas of technological insight through his broad experiences. Within the company, he champions energy-efficient, healthy, and sustainable home building research through the use of advanced building technology as well as the implementation of renewable energy sources.

Managers

Bradley E. Scherer

Construction Supervisor, Lead Carpenter, Safety Manager

Bradley is a graduate of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School (NJ) and was also enrolled at the Union County Fire Academy. While a volunteer member of the Scotch Plains Fire Department for 10 years, Bradley worked full-time at a local metal machine company for 2 years prior to joining Elizabethtown Gas as a service mechanic and emergency responder for 8 years. In 2004, Bradley joined the design/build firm, MD Architecture in Scotch Plains, NJ, where he performed many various tasks as a carpenter and foreman and oversaw the custom cabinetry shop for 7 years before joining Baker Development Group LLC in 2011.

Bradley brings a vast array of skills to the company ranging from general and finish carpentry to plumbing, electrical, tile, masonry, concrete, excavating. As Construction Supervisor/Lead Carpenter, Bradley supervises the construction of projects in the field as well as assists in the execution of any on-site specialty work.  Additionally, Bradley holds the complete OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) 30-Hour Card in Construction and manages the important Safety and Health Program within the company.

David K. White

Construction Supervisor, Lead Carpenter

David has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry going back to his days in high school, where he worked for 3 years installing passive solar sunrooms and greenhouses. As a graduate of Warren Hills High School (NJ), he began his formal technical training in Boston at Boston Tech. From there, David worked about 3 years for a residential construction company assisting in the building of new homes and renovations. Before returning back to the home building industry, he worked for approximately 4 years as a heavy highway machine operator. Prior to joining Baker Development Group LLC, David worked for over 20 years with a regional custom home builder in the Lehigh Valley as a hands-on, lead supervisor and specialty work craftsman.

In addition to holding the OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) 10-Hour Card in Construction, David brings a plethora of valuable experience in tradework to our team including fine cabinet making, finish carpentry, rough carpentry, concrete, tile installation, electrical, HVAC as well as the installation of insulated concrete forms. As Construction Supervisor/Lead Carpenter, David helps supervise the construction of projects in the field as well as assist in the execution of any on-site specialty work.
