Urban Oasis with a View
Our firm is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this truly unique project for an accomplished local architect and his partner. Guided by the visionary minds of the owners, our team was asked to help bring the owners’ artful design to reality. Our scope of work included crafting the home and the site work to completion, however with one notable difference – on the interior, the owners were going to take the home from the finished drywall stage and provide their personal creative touches and craftsmanship to an already alluring contemporary design. And then collectively, our joined efforts would result in a modern masterpiece fit perfectly for the needs and desires of our treasured clients!
Starting off, the project provided some inherent challenges. Firstly, the building site was essentially an urban infill lot situated on a little bit of a slope. Siting the home correctly was critical due to the tight site, but also to best take advantage of the incredible distant city views. Additionally, there was an existing foundation structure that had to be navigated properly to set the eventual home up on a sound footing. And tie-ins to the city sewer and water also provided challenges on the hillside along the way. But once that was all accomplished, it was wonderful to see the home construction take shape, especially considering its uncommon, yet striking design.
After much study and contemplation during construction, crafting the uncommon roof-to-wall transition detail perfectly allowed the home’s geometric shape coupled with its large expanse fenestration and two-tone, two-plane metal siding to set the residence apart from the neighboring homes without overshadowing the neighborhood fabric. And rounding out this inspiring vision is the exquisite landscaping, hardscaping, and serene water feature that can also be traversed. This is one shining example of how thoughtful landscape design can complement and even elevate the overall impression of the home, and also the experience of living in and around it.
