Peaceful Living

Looking to change gears from their former traditionally styled home, our beloved clients were excited to design and build a notably modern home in beautiful neighborhood for their family.  Working from the inspiration of somewhat common California modern residences, we crafted this stunning home to not only be contemporary, but also cozy and comfortable throughout!

In consideration of the naturally sloping site, the home was designed to be nestled right into the hillside while also taking advantage of the beautiful scenery in the surrounding area.  Its playful composition of geometric massing compliments the modern aesthetic and also helps set the tone for the impressive blend of exterior veneers and color tones – stone, stucco, and stained composite wood siding; and is a vocabular that was continued at the street when conceiving the design of the welcome  ‘folly’ next to the driveway entry.  And to enjoy the views on warm summer days, there are two outdoor sundecks with pristine glass railings on the second floor to take in all the sun rays.

Inside upon entry into the two-story foyer, the middle of the home is wide open and full of intriguing vignettes all around.  Whether it’s the impressive double-height great room fireplace with alluring orthogonally patterned artistry, one-of-kind backlit wine wall, or the seemingly floating glass open-riser staircase, this home showcases many fun and creative modern features.  When it’s time to retire for the evening, rest comfortably in the light-filled master suite on the first floor or in any of the four spacious bedrooms on the second floor.

Rounding out the home is its focus on high performance attributes.  Despite all the glass, the home is very well insulated and airtight helping its variable speed HVAC system to operate at maximum efficiency throughout the year.  And the LED lighting, Energy Star qualified appliances, and efficient water heating help further the overall energy savings day after day.  Other convenient and interesting features around the home include the prep kitchen/pantry acting as a welcomed extension of the kitchen, heated towel warmers in every bathroom, a clean modern wall hung toilet in the powder room, underlit cabinetry in the kitchen and all bathrooms, and an in-ceiling heater out on the rear covered porch to help extend outdoor living even into the winter months, if desired. All in all, our team at studio26 is very grateful for the opportunity to work with these wonderful clients in delivering a truly unique and alluring modern home – one where varying materials and textures coupled with unique spaces and an abundance of glass – abound!
